Politix vs Santoli Napoli: Sharp Fit or Better Fabric
Share
Australia
Politix is built around a slim, sharp silhouette, with shirts at AU$69 to AU$199, stores you can walk into and a fit that suits going out more than standing in the sun. As of September 2026 its current shirts range has no 100% linen shirt. The linen styles it listed at AU$99 to AU$149 are on clearance. Santoli Napoli is 100% linen on every shirt, Albini cloth on the Ischia line, cut and sewn in Napoli, around AU$229, deliberately relaxed. The honest tension is that a slim shirt looks better in photographs and a relaxed linen one performs better in heat, because airflow is the entire point of the fabric.
I make one of these two. This comparison is less about quality than about a genuine disagreement over what a linen shirt is for, which makes it more interesting than most.

What Politix does well
They understand a silhouette. The whole brand is built around a slim, sharp line and they execute it consistently, which is harder than it sounds. If you are dressing for a night out, a wedding, or anywhere you want to look put together rather than comfortable, that is a real skill.
Prices are accessible, there are stores to walk into, and the merchandising makes it easy to buy a whole outfit. For a younger buyer or anyone who wants tailoring rather than drape, they are a sensible first stop.
The disagreement about fit
Here is the thing worth understanding, because it is not a matter of taste alone.
Linen cools you because air moves through the weave and because the fabric lifts moisture off your skin and releases it. Both of those require a gap between the cloth and your body. A shirt cut close, with the fabric sitting against your chest and back, cancels most of that. You are wearing a fabric chosen for airflow in a cut that prevents airflow.
This is why traditional Mediterranean linen shirts are cut generously. It is not a stylistic preference that happened to become a convention. It is the cut that makes the fabric work in 35°C.
Which does not mean a slim linen shirt is pointless. If you are wearing it at eight in the evening in an air conditioned room, the airflow question barely applies and the silhouette is what you will notice. Politix's slim cuts are made for that scenario and it is a real scenario.
More on cut and why it matters in how should a linen shirt fit.
Composition
As of September 2026, Politix's current shirts range has no 100% linen shirt. The one current shirt with linen in it is 93% lyocell and 7% linen. Its earlier linen styles, still online at clearance prices, include a 100% French linen long sleeve and linen and cotton blends at around 56 to 58% linen. Check the label.
The reason it matters more in a slim shirt than a loose one is that you have already reduced airflow by cutting close. Add polyester, which does not absorb moisture and holds heat, and a slim blended linen shirt in an Australian summer is working against you twice.
Every Santoli shirt is 100% linen. That is fixed. Detail in Italian linen versus regular linen.
Price
Politix's linen styles listed at AU$99 to AU$149, and the ones left are on clearance, as of September 2026. Santoli's Ischia shirts are around AU$229, with prices displaying in Australian dollars at checkout.
The gap buys Albini cloth from Northern Italy on the Ischia line and making in Napoli, both stated publicly. It does not buy a sharper silhouette, and if a sharp silhouette is what you want, paying more for a relaxed one is a poor trade.
On importing, goods under AU$1,000 attract no duty or GST at the Australian border. Full detail in where to buy Italian linen shirts in Australia.
How each one actually wears
Politix on a summer evening. Sharp, deliberate, photographs well. Works under a jacket without bulk. The right call for a rooftop bar or a summer wedding where you are mostly indoors or seated.
Santoli on a summer afternoon. Drapes, moves, and lets air through. Sleeves roll cleanly. The right call for a long day outdoors, a coastal lunch, or anywhere you are standing in actual heat.
If you want a middle path, a relaxed shirt tucked into tailored trousers reads sharper than the shirt alone suggests, and you keep the airflow. There is more on that in how to style linen the Italian way and in the guide to wearing linen as a set.
Which to buy
Politix if silhouette matters more to you than 100% linen, you dress mostly for evenings and events, you want to try before buying, or you want to return in person, which is free in its own stores. Also if you are under thirty and the slim line is simply the look you want, which is a legitimate reason.
Santoli Napoli if you wear linen in real daytime heat, you want the composition guaranteed, you care where the cloth and making came from, or you have discovered that slim linen shirts feel worse than they look at two in the afternoon.
The range
Shirts are $139 in the Italian collar collection and the mandarin collar collection. The mandarin collar is the sharper of the two without a tie, if you want some of the Politix register with the Italian cloth.
Linen trousers are $99. Worn with a shirt in the same linen they read more deliberate than separates, both sold separately in the men's collection. The Positano Capsule is thirteen colourways at $119, each colourway made once, no restock.
Frequently asked questions
Is a slim fit linen shirt a bad idea?
Not bad, just a trade off. Linen cools you through airflow between the cloth and your skin, so a close cut reduces the fabric's main advantage. For evenings and indoor settings that barely matters. For standing in the sun it does.
Is Politix linen 100% linen?
Not in the current range, as of September 2026. Politix's current shirts include no 100% linen style, and the one with linen in it is 93% lyocell, 7% linen. Older linen styles still online at clearance prices include a 100% French linen long sleeve and linen and cotton blends, so check the composition on the label.
Can I get a sharp look in a relaxed linen shirt?
Yes. Tuck it into tailored trousers, keep the sleeves rolled cleanly to the forearm, and choose a mandarin collar, which reads more finished than an open spread collar without a tie.
Which is better value?
Politix is cheaper and gives you stores, with returns at no charge in its own stores or AU$9.95 by post, as of September 2026, though clearance pieces cannot be returned for a change of mind. Santoli costs more and gives you guaranteed 100% linen, a named mill and a named city. Value depends entirely on whether silhouette or fabric is your priority.
Which suits a younger buyer?
Politix generally, since the slim line is closer to what most buyers under thirty are after. That said, relaxed linen has become considerably more common in that age group over the last few years.
Does Santoli do a slimmer cut?
No. The cut is relaxed across the range because airflow is the reason to wear linen. If you want a fitted linen shirt, another brand will serve you better and I would rather say so.
What size should I order if I usually buy slim fit?
Take your usual size and expect more room through the chest and back. Size up if you are between sizes. The cut is close through the shoulder and armhole, and linen has no stretch. The first wash softens the fabric without changing the fit.
Which one works better under a jacket?
A slimmer shirt sits with less bulk under a jacket. If you wear a blazer often, that is a genuine point for Politix. A mandarin collar helps on the relaxed side, since it sits cleanly against a lapel.
