Best Frescobol Carioca Alternatives 2026: Same Fabric, Lower Price
Share
Short answer: Frescobol Carioca sells 100% linen shirts at around $265 with Brazilian design and European production. The closest alternatives at a lower price are Santoli Napoli at $139 (made in Napoli, Italy), Luca Faloni at $260 (made in Italy), Percival at around $165 (UK design, made in China, disclosed) and MagicLinen at around $110 (made in Lithuania). The fibre is the same in all of them. What changes is the design language, the cut and the price.

I make linen shirts in Napoli, so I am one of the alternatives on this list and you should read the ranking with that in mind. The facts are checkable. If you want the direct comparison, our linen shirts are $139.
What are you actually paying for at $265?
Three things, and two of them are real.
Print and colour development. This is the genuine one. Frescobol Carioca's prints are original, developed in house, and there is nothing else in the category that looks like them. If you want a linen shirt with a distinctive print rather than a solid, they have no real competitor and the price is defensible.
Brand and retail presence. Stocked in Selfridges, Mr Porter and Matches, with a physical retail footprint. Wholesale margin is built into the price. That is a business model cost, not a garment cost.
Cut. A slightly shorter, boxier resort cut designed to be worn open over swim shorts. Some people prefer it. It is a different shape from an Italian shirt, not a better constructed one.

Which alternative fits which buyer?
If you liked Frescobol for the fabric and the resort feel, not the prints: Santoli Napoli at $139. Same 100% linen, cut and sewn in Napoli by Partenopea Camicie SRLS, core line fabric from the Albini mill in Northern Italy. You lose the prints. You keep the fabric quality and save around $126 a shirt.
If you want prints and patterns without the price: Percival at around $165. British rather than Brazilian, more graphic, and the closest thing to Frescobol's willingness to put something interesting on a shirt.
If you want the deepest solid colour range: Luca Faloni at $260. Still a saving, still genuinely Italian, and the colour depth on their core line is the best in this group.
If price is the main filter: MagicLinen at around $110. Lithuanian, honest about it, and no Mediterranean or resort styling at all.
Italian cut vs Brazilian resort cut
Worth understanding before you switch, because it is the thing people notice first.
A Brazilian resort cut runs shorter in the body and squarer through the hem, designed to be worn untucked and open. An Italian cut runs slightly longer with a more tapered line through the body, designed to work both open over a tee and tucked into trousers for dinner.
Neither is correct. But if you are moving from Frescobol to an Italian brand, the shirt will sit longer than you are used to, and if you only ever wear it open on a beach, that is a genuine downside for you.
Where Frescobol Carioca beats us
Prints, without qualification. We make solids and stripes. If you want a bold original print on 100% linen, we do not have it and I am not going to pretend a stripe is the same thing.
Swim. They make matching swim shorts, we do not.
Retail. You can try a Frescobol shirt on in a shop before buying. You cannot try ours on, which is a real disadvantage when you are spending $139 on a fit you have not felt.
We offset the last one with free 30 day returns and a published model reference, but that is mitigation, not a solution.
What you get from us instead
100% linen, never a blend. Cut and sewn in Napoli, Italy, by a named manufacturer. Core line fabric from Albini in Northern Italy. Shipping from the United States, free over $200. Free returns for 30 days.
Our model is 6'1" (185cm) and 185lbs and wears a size L. Between sizes, size down, because linen relaxes about a centimetre through the chest after the first wash.
At $139 versus $265, two of ours costs less than one of theirs. Three shirts triggers an automatic 10% and five triggers 15%, which is why most people who switch buy more than one. See the men's collection.
On colour and pattern, the closest we come to Frescobol territory is the Positano Capsule at $119, eight colourways including two stripes. Solids and stripes rather than prints, and a finite run with no restock.
FAQ
Why is Frescobol Carioca so expensive?
Original in house print development, European production, and a wholesale and retail model that includes department store margin. The fibre itself is 100% linen, the same as brands at half the price.
What brand is similar to Frescobol Carioca but cheaper?
Santoli Napoli at $139 for Italian made 100% linen in solids and stripes, or Percival at around $165 if you specifically want patterns. Both are roughly half the price for the same fibre content.
Where are Frescobol Carioca shirts made?
The brand is Brazilian in design and identity, with production based in Europe. It is a Rio design language rather than an Italian one, which matters if Mediterranean styling is what you are after.
Is Frescobol Carioca linen 100% linen?
Their linen shirts are 100% linen. They also sell cotton and blended pieces, so check the composition on the specific product rather than assuming across the range.
Does Frescobol Carioca run big or small?
The resort cut runs shorter and boxier than an Italian cut shirt. Buyers moving from Frescobol to an Italian brand usually find the Italian shirt sits longer in the body at the same nominal size.
Is a $139 linen shirt as good as a $265 one?
On fibre content and construction, largely yes, provided the cheaper shirt is 100% linen from a good mill with proper stitch density. What you lose at $139 is print development, retail presence and the ability to try it on. What you keep is the fabric.
